Go Ape!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

So everyone on here knows I love the Apes films. I have all the films in the special edition Caesar’s Bust version. Which gave you all the films, the making of, the entire TV series and cartoon series and even that Tim Burton version which was the worst thing ever made.

Now they needed to remake Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and call it Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I suppose they are saying that this movie is the original origin of the rise of the apes. But Cornelius tells the origin in Escape (part 3). Now maybe he had it wrong? Did Doctor Zaius keep the truth from him? Maybe. But in any case, this film tells the original origin of the apes so its not really a remake of Conquest – since Conquest is the rise of the apes in the now altered timeline – after Escape.

Confusing? Well not really, but there it is.

So basically I am looking at this film as a part zero if you will.

That being said, I really really liked it. It’s 1000 times better than the Tim Burton one (which had like 18 writers and 10 directors before Timmy was forced into taking it over) and at least this one had some good points to make.

The CGI in this case really worked with the movie. Caesar (named after the same character in Conquest) is amazing! He is played by Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in LOTR and King Kong! His face is given the Avatar/Beowulf treatment and it really works well here since it conveys the feeling that Caesar is much smarter than everyone else.

This whole process really produces a creepy effect. You just know that something is off with Caesar and its kind of cool actually! He is obviously the best thing about this movie, but he’s not the only thing.

The movie is wicked! I mean whether you say it’s a prequel or reboot (I think it’s supposed to be a reboot). Whatever it is, its definitely worth seeing, and I will be buying this movie big time on DVD/Bluray. I am happy to add it to the series and if it’s a reboot, then so be it.

Some other cool stuff:

The “Damn dirty Apes” line and “Mad house” lines are both in there. You also see the mars mission – which is supposed to be Heston’s ship taking off and then being lost in space – leading to the first film. Caesar is named after his counterpart in Conquest. They name Caesars mom Brighteyes – which is Heston’s nickname in part one. They even name an ape Cornelia (after Cornelius and Zira) and the orangutan is named Maurice – after the actor who played Dr Zaius. I mean this is a tribute and half here! I love when movies do this.

Also at one point you see Caesar making a model statue of liberty – GREAT!
Plus when Caesar addresses the apes it looks exactly like Ape Council in Beneath!
And you get Caesar saying something that if you know your apes movies, you will see coming!

So yeah, I am pumped for this one and its doing well! This NEVER happens! So good for them. At least this is an intelligent movie and some crappy Transfomers movie.

Support this one guys!
